וַיִּמְאֲסוּ אֶת־חֻקָּיו וְאֶת־בְּרִיתֹו אֲשֶׁר כָּרַת אֶת־אֲבֹותָם וְאֵת עֵדְוֹתָיו אֲשֶׁר הֵעִיד בָּם וַיֵּלְכוּ אַחֲרֵי הַהֶבֶל וַיֶּהְבָּלוּ וְאַחֲרֵי הַגֹּויִם אֲשֶׁר סְבִיבֹתָם אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה אֹתָם לְבִלְתִּי עֲשֹׂות כָּהֶם׃

Oni prezreše zakon njegov i zavjete njegove, što ga je bio učinio s ocima njihovim, i opomene njegove, što ih je upravio njima, trčali su za ništavim idolima, tako da sami padoše u ništavost, i za poganima, koji su stanovali oko njih, premda im je Gospod bio zabranio, da ne čine kao oni.

Prezreli su njegove zakone i Savez koji je sklopio s njihovim ocima i opomene njegove koje im je upućivao. Težili su za ispraznošću, pa su i sami postali isprazni slijedeći narode oko sebe, premda im je Jahve zapovjedio da ne čine kao oni.
