וַיֹּאמֶר הָעָם אֶל־שָׁאוּל הֲיֹונָתָן יָמוּת אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה הַיְשׁוּעָה הַגְּדֹולָה הַזֹּאת בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל חָלִילָה חַי־יְהוָה אִם־יִפֹּל מִשַּׂעֲרַת רֹאשֹׁו אַרְצָה כִּי־עִם־אֱלֹהִים עָשָׂה הַיֹּום הַזֶּה וַיִּפְדּוּ הָעָם אֶת־יֹונָתָן וְלֹא־מֵת׃ ס

Ali vojska izjavi Saulu: "Što? Jonatan, koji je izvojevao ovu veliku pobjedu u Izraelu, mora umrijeti? To ne smije biti! Tako živ bio Gospod, ni jedna dlaka s glave njegove neće pasti na zemlju, jer je s pomoću Božjom izvojevao on današnju pobjedu." Tako izbavi vojska Jonatana od smrti.

Ali narod reče Šaulu: "Zar da umre Jonatan, koji je izvojevao ovu veliku pobjedu u Izraelu? Ne smije to biti! Živoga nam Jahve, nijedna vlas neće pasti s njegove glave na zemlju jer je on s Bogom izvršio ovo djelo danas!" Tako ga narod izbavi te Jonatan ne pogibe.

Ali narod reče Saulu: zar da pogine Jonatan, koji je učinio ovo spasenje veliko u Izrailju? Bože sačuvaj! Tako živ bio Gospod, neće pasti na zemlju nijedna dlaka s glave njegove. Jer je s pomoću Božjom učinio to danas. I tako izbavi narod Jonatana, te ne pogibe.
